The governor of Belgorod Oblast suggested leaving the damaged homes and vehicles of residents who relocated overseas unrepaired.

Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has suggested delaying reconstruction efforts for properties belonging to residents who have relocated abroad until after the war concludes. He made these remarks during a regional government session on June 16.

Gladkov noted that local residents have expressed dissatisfaction with equal assistance being provided to both those who departed and those who remained. "Why should we prioritize spending on people who've left the country when others are staying here, enduring hardships and working under extremely challenging conditions?" he questioned. "I have serious concerns about our current approach of equal support for all. For those holding dual citizenship, they should seek assistance from their other country of citizenship. We'll address these cases individually after the special military operation concludes, but for now we'll preserve these properties in their current state," the governor stated.

This follows Gladkov's mid-May comments alleging some regional residents intentionally exposed their vehicles to shelling to claim compensation.
