Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin has revealed plans to establish a "demographic special forces" unit aimed at providing pre-abortion counseling to local residents. The announcement was made through his Telegram channel.
This initiative was jointly developed by the nonprofit "Institute of Demographic Development" in collaboration with regional ministries overseeing social policy and healthcare. Nikitin stated the program's primary objective is to encourage women to reconsider abortion decisions during early stages of consideration.
The governor explained that these specialized operators will monitor online platforms to detect initial search queries when women begin seeking information about pregnancy termination. Upon identifying such searches across search engines and social media, they will direct women to the "Save.rf" website and a dedicated hotline.
Nikitin noted that previously, counseling services were only available after women had already decided to proceed with abortions. "Institute experts project this approach could reduce abortion rates by up to 15%. Beyond statistics, every life preserved represents immense value and joy. For us, launching this demographic unit marks another advancement in our population policy implementation," the governor emphasized.
