The Russian Ministry of Justice has designated Gorby Media's website and Telegram channel as "foreign agents," according to an official statement from the ministry.
Authorities claim the outlet disseminated "false information" regarding decisions made by Russian government bodies, the electoral process, and the Russian Orthodox Church through these platforms. The ministry's press release further alleges the media organization collaborates with other foreign agents by circulating their content to broad audiences.
The updated registry of foreign agents now includes human rights advocate Anastasia Garina, surgeon Alexander Vanyuk, and several others.
Gorby magazine launched its first edition in August 2023, coinciding with the first anniversary of former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's passing. The publication's founders describe their mission as "demystifying history, present realities, and future prospects."
A collective of like-minded individuals runs the magazine, with journalist Andrei Lipsky serving as editor-in-chief.
