Renowned Russian filmmaker Yuri Kara passed away in Yalta, according to a statement from the Russian Union of Cinematographers reported by Interfax.
The announcement indicated his death occurred the previous day, though no specific cause was provided. Kara was 70 years old at the time of his passing.
An accomplished Soviet and Russian director, Kara held the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. His notable works include the films *Tomorrow Was War*, *The Master and Margarita*, and *Thieves in Law*.
In 2014, Kara publicly endorsed Russia's annexation of Crimea, and in 2022, he signed a letter backing Russia's military actions in Ukraine. These stances led to his entry ban in Latvia. Additionally, the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) included him in their registry of individuals labeled as "corrupt and warmongers."
