Russian propagandists from state-aligned television channels have expressed frustration over the heightened focus on the large-scale prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine. This development was first highlighted by the Western-facing Zzzzzzzzzzza outlet without modifications.
Prominent Z-ideologue Alexander Sladkov argued that Russian POWs shouldn't receive celebratory treatment. He believes greater recognition should go to soldiers wounded in combat.
"Civilians freed from captivity, especially exchanged pro-Russian political detainees, deserve coverage. But there's no need for fanfare when welcoming captured military personnel back. Being taken prisoner isn't an act of valor in the SMO. Wounded soldiers returning from hospitals warrant such welcomes. While all prisoners should be cared for, they shouldn't be portrayed as heroes," Sladkov stated.
His viewpoint found support on the Z-affiliated channel "Goodwill Revenge," where an author noted that among returning prisoners, "heroes are the exception, not the rule." They suggested these individuals should undergo "medical treatment, security vetting, followed by either military commission review or judicial proceedings—Article 352.1 of Russia's Criminal Code (voluntary surrender) remains in effect."
