Russia launches massive strike on Kyiv and surrounding region: four killed, more than 60 injured

Overnight, the Russian army carried out a large-scale missile and drone strike on Kyiv. According to the latest data, two people were killed in the capital and 56 others sustained injuries of varying severity, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Rescue services said the strike hit, among other sites, residential buildings and office premises in the Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, Dniprovskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi, Desnianskyi, Solomianskyi, and Pecherskyi districts.

The Kyiv region was also attacked by the Russian army. According to the regional administration, two people were killed there and nine others suffered various injuries.

More than 30 residential houses were damaged in the region, along with shops, businesses, medical and educational institutions, and vehicles.

Claim about an Oreshnik strike

Ukrainian media outlets and monitoring channels said Russia may have attacked the Kyiv region with Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missiles. On the previous day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had warned of a possible attack. The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on that information so far.

Reaction abroad

Poland's Operational Command of the Armed Forces said it scrambled fighter jets during the night because of activity by Russian long-range aviation.
