Victory Day parades will not be held on May 9 in the capitals of one-third of Russia’s regions. In another 37 administrative centers, they are planned without military equipment or with other restrictions. This was reported by Verstka.
According to the outlet, parades featuring moving military vehicles are scheduled in only 18 of 85 regional capitals, with annexed Crimea included in the count. Such events are expected, among other places, in Yaroslavl, Volgograd, Khabarovsk, Krasnoyarsk, Penza, Ufa, Gorno-Altaysk, and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
In another 27 regional capitals, authorities explicitly refused to hold a parade or omitted it from the events program without any separate announcement. Those cities include the border cities of Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk, Rostov-on-Don, as well as the annexed cities of Simferopol and Sevastopol.
In the remaining 37 regional capitals, parades are expected to take place without military equipment, without confirmed participation of such equipment, or under other restrictions.
The Victory Day parade on Red Square in Moscow will, according to the report, take place without military equipment for the first time in 19 years. The Kremlin said the decision was made because of
“Kyiv’s terrorist activity.”
Format of the Immortal Regiment march
In the border regions, as well as in Ufa, Vladivostok, and Stavropol, the Immortal Regiment event will be held only online. In Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, and Krasnoyarsk, the march is planned in person; in Omsk, Samara, and Tyumen, it will be held in a mixed format. In Moscow, the format had not yet been decided at the time of publication.
