In the morning, an unidentified drone entered the airspace of Latvia over the municipality of Kraslava, which borders Belarus, and some time later left the country over the municipality of Ludza on the border with Russia. This was reported by the country’s National Armed Forces (NBS).
An air alert was declared in five districts. Fighter jets were also scrambled.
Previous incident
On May 7, two Ukrainian drones crashed in Latvia, triggering a political crisis. The country’s defense minister resigned, followed by the prime minister and the entire government.
Later, Kyiv confirmed that the drones were Ukrainian. They had entered Latvia from the direction of Russia after Russian electronic warfare systems knocked them off course.
Finnish outlet Yle reported that Ukraine does not give advance warning of its strikes on northwestern Russia. Latvia’s Defense Ministry said the country neither receives such warnings from Kyiv nor asks for them.
On Friday morning, residents of St. Petersburg again reported internet disruptions, which, the report says, may indicate a possible Ukrainian attack on the region.
