Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Shuvaev acting governor of the Belgorod region and Yegor Kovalchuk acting head of the Bryansk region. The Kremlin press service reported this.
Before the appointments, Putin held preliminary meetings at the Kremlin with both candidates.
At the same time, Putin accepted the resignations of their predecessors, Vyacheslav Gladkov and Alexander Bogomaz. The Kremlin said both had decided to leave their posts of their own accord.
Who is Shuvaev
Alexander Shuvaev is a Russian serviceman and an army major general. He took part in the Russo-Georgian war, the military operation in Syria, and the war against Ukraine. Last summer, Shuvaev joined the Time of Heroes program, and in January he became deputy governor of the Irkutsk region.
Sources cited by Novaya-Europe had previously reported that he would be appointed head of Belgorod Region. However, the appointment was delayed: according to the outlet’s sources, he may have gotten drunk before a meeting with Vladimir Putin, and
“the military’s lobbyists realized he was no good.”
Who is Kovalchuk
Yegor Kovalchuk is a graduate of the governors’ school, a personnel management reserve development program at the Higher School of Public Administration of RANEPA. He served as deputy governor of the Chelyabinsk region and head of the city of Miass. In July 2024, Russia appointed him “chairman of the government” of the “LPR”.
