Russia’s Ministry of Education has approved and sent to the regions a concept of “historical education” covering all levels of study, from kindergartens to universities. The document’s goal is to promote “civic identity among young people,” the ministry told RIA Novosti.
The practical part of the concept includes “large-scale events” devoted to World War II and the war in Ukraine. The educational process is also to be supplemented with themed academic competitions, quests, projects, and history clubs.
According to ministry head Sergey Kravtsov, the document gives special attention to “teaching schoolchildren the skills of critically evaluating information, working with sources, and countering the falsification of history.”
The program is designed for five years. It also предусматривает the creation of a specialized information platform in 2027. Implementation of the concept is set to begin on September 1.
Other school initiatives
At the end of April, it became known that students in grades 5 through 7 will study a new subject, “Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia” (“DNA of Russia”), starting next academic year. The course was developed on the instructions of Vladimir Putin.
In addition, the government has developed a package of measures to prevent “negative phenomena” among young people. This includes the creation of student “cyber squads” that will monitor their peers online and help security agencies with blocking efforts.
In April, Russian schools also began lessons about the dangers of VPNs. Children are being told that bypassing blocks is now illegal and may be associated with drug use.
