Wildberries promises sellers discounts and soft loans after warehouse fires

After an attack that set two Wildberries warehouses ablaze in the Moscow and Tambov regions, the company announced its first support measures for sellers. The fire at the warehouse in Elektrostal was still ongoing at the time of publication, while the amount of destroyed goods and total losses had not yet been determined.

Wildberries said it would need about a month to assess the damage. Immediately after the strikes, company head Tatyana Kim reminded sellers that under contract terms in force since early July, the marketplace is not obligated to compensate them for lost goods.

According to Kim, the company is nevertheless “working on” possible payouts and other forms of financial support.

On July 19, Wildberries and its partners announced their first decisions for merchants who had already complained about serious financial losses.

What support was announced

  • Wildberries will provide storage discounts for goods during the next 45 days from the date of delivery.
  • The company also promised free transportation of goods to regional warehouses.
  • WB Bank will offer small and medium-sized businesses debt repayment deferrals of up to six months, along with soft loans.
  • The bank will also waive fees on payments within Russia.
  • Sber offered loan restructuring and free insurance consultations.

Against this backdrop, the issue of direct compensation for burned goods remains unresolved. So far, the company has only spoken of an ongoing damage assessment and discussions of possible payouts, without naming either amounts or deadlines for final decisions.
